Summerville rolled off another victory on the softball diamond. The Green Wave handed rival Ashley Ridge an 8-0 loss April 25 at Green Wave Park. Senior Ansley Bennett threw a one-hitter as Summerville only allowed a total of three base runners.

Bennett had 14 strikeouts, but hit two batters with a pitch during a performance that was nearly a perfect game. “Ansley was solid in the circle and our kids did a great job in the box,” said Summerville coach Heather Tucker. “We were very discipline and selective with our pitches and hit well.

Our base running was pretty solid tonight, which is something we’ve been trying to work on. Our defense did a good job getting that leadoff out every inning.” A grounder slipped into right field late in the game for Ashley Ridge’s sole hit.

Summerville tallied eight hits across six innings. Summerville improved to 22-0 on the season with a 6-0 mark in 5A Region 8. The Green Wave is looking to clinch the region championship next week.

“We need to stay up and try to enjoy the moment and have some fun because it is a game,” Tucker said. “There is a little bit of pressure on the girls on this team but they have done a good job of just showing up every night and trying to compete. We need to keep taking it one game at a time and working hard so we can keep growing.

” Summerville hosts Stall for a double header Monday, April 28 starting at 5 p.m. It then travels to West Ashley Wednesday, April 29 and closes its schedule at 7 p.

m. Friday, May 2 by hosting Fort Dorchester. “We have all region games next week,” Tucker said.

“When we played West Ashley earlier in the season it was a tight game so we need to be focused for that game at their place.”.
