Stuart Fleetwood said that he is looking to foster positivity as Swindon Supermarine prepare for the decisive game in their relegation battle. The Southern League Premier South comes to an end this weekend, and Supermarine will begin the final day in the relegation zone, although just three points separate them in 19th from Chertsey Town in 14th. Having pulled off a miraculous survival last season, Fleetwood says he is approaching the game against third-place Walton and Hersham, knowing they just need to do their own job.

He said: “It has been very familiar to last season, when we got out on the final day, although this time we have been out of the bottom four and gone in at the wrong time. “We know what we need to do. A win gives us a 99 per cent chance of staying up, as I think five results would need to go against us.

“We will be going there with a game plan and give it everything we have got, so fingers crossed it is the great escape take two. “I think it helps having that little bit of experience of knowing what we have to do on the final day and knowing we can win. “The disappointing thing is going in on a pretty poor run of form, whereas last season we were picking up points to put ourselves in that position.

“It is one game of football, anything can happen. There is pressure on it, there always is, but going there knowing you need to win reduces that as there are no grey areas.” Fleetwood added that he was looking to see the desire from his players in training this week, and also to instil some positivity into them.

He said: “We will be working on a gameplan and making sure the players know how to execute that. “I don’t think that it is my job to motivate the team, because if you can’t self-motivate for a game like this then you are probably in the wrong sport. “I want to give them the tactical input, but also some positivity, I want to see some smiles on faces.

“It was my birthday yesterday [Wednesday], so I have got to take some cakes in to training as those are the rules we have. “We need to make it as positive and vibrant as possible, there is no point going in feeling down, it needs to be lively and positive, with everyone dying for the game to come around.”.
