Three pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout Friday as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders stopped a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 blanking of the Durham Bulls on Friday at Athletic Park in North Carolina. Allan Winans, who was optioned down by the Yankees on Tuesday, started and allowed two hits in three innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. At one point, he whiffed five in a row — the final two batters in the bottom of the first and the side in the second.

Sean Boyle (2-2) relieved and gave up just one hit in five innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Yerry De Los Santos worked a perfect ninth with one strikeout. Early offense supported that pitching.

In the top of the first, Jorbit Vivas led off with a single and, one out later, T.J. Rumfield homered down the left-field line, just clearing the 32-foot high “Blue Monster” to make it 2-0.

Then in the third, Jesus Rodriguez had an RBI double and Jose Rojas had a two-run double to make it 5-0. Vivas had three hits, raising his average to .364.

Seven of the nine RailRiders batters had at least one hit and eight of nine reached base to help knot the six-game series, 2-2. Righty Zach Messinger (0-0, 4.63) is scheduled to start Saturday’s 6:35 p.

m. game for the RailRiders against Durham righthander Joe Boyle (0-1, 2.25).

Before Friday’s game, outfielder Duke Ellis was placed on the seven-day injured list. Catcher Edinson Duran was activated off the development list..
