During those nine years that I taught in this area I either did summer tutoring or taught Migrant School. The first year or so I did both. I had a morning job and an afternoon one.
The schedules were different every day, so I had to stay on my toes. Besides that, I had to add in drive time to these places. Oh yes, it’s hard to watch your speed when you are in a hurry.
You guessed it ...
I got caught speeding on one of those drives. The officer looked at me with a big smile on his face. I didn’t look at him the same way but said, “What are you doing on the road when I’m in a hurry?” We talked about my situation and he said, “If we are going to be friends, you have to slow down.
” He kept on with that smile. Then when I got to school and looked at myself, I noticed I had a big red heart on my face from face painting at my other job. Now, I know why he was laughing.
