Excelsior CorrespondentRAJOURI, Apr 19: A 16-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances at GMC Rajouri on Saturday evening, prompting police to detain a couple for questioning.According to officials, the girl-identified as Gulshan Akhtar, daughter of Talib Hussain of Moda Daraj-was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state by a man and woman who claimed to be her siblings.The couple told doctors that the girl might have accidentally consumed a poisonous substance, they said.
Despite immediate medical attention, she passed away shortly after being admitted, the officials said.However, after the girl died, the couple changed their statements, they said. They then told doctors and the police that some unidentified youth had brought the teenager to Gurdhan area, where she was found vomiting.
They claimed they only transported her to the hospital.Suspicious of their shifting version of events, the police detained the couple when they allegedly attempted to flee the hospital.Police later identified the girl’s family and informed them of the incident.
After the post-mortem examination was conducted and formalities completed, the body was handed over to her relatives.SHO Rajouri Vinay Kumar said a case of suspicious death has been registered.“Three persons, including the couple, have been taken into custody for interrogation,” the police officer said.
