ABUJA – A prominent ally of former Nigerian Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed strong disapproval of Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed’s recent comments, which were regarded as inappropriate and disrespectful towards the elder statesman. Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a respected political figure from Zamfara State and widely regarded as Gimbiyar Kauran Namoda, in a statement on Tuesday denouncing the remarks made by Governor Muhammed.
She emphasized that such comments were uncharacteristic of a party leader. Dr. Aliyu conveyed her view that Atiku Abubakar is a political figure whose reputation and contributions cannot be undermined by individuals whose influence is largely confined to their local constituencies.
“Atiku Abubakar is a statesman whose political legacy is built on years of dedication and service, and should not be diminished by those with limited political experience,” Dr. Aliyu stated. Dr.
Aliyu further highlighted Atiku’s longstanding political influence since 1999, underscoring his role in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, his significant contributions to the PDP, and his continued relevance in Nigerian politics over the years. She also suggested that Governor Muhammed’s comments reflected a lack of political maturity, as they attempted to downplay Atiku’s established position within the party. “For a governor who owes his platform to the PDP’s legacy to belittle one of its founding pillars is not just ungrateful—it is dangerous,” she warned.
She emphasized that when discussing the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today, after Atiku Abubakar, the next prominent leader is Senator Aminu Tambuwal. “Senator Tambuwal demonstrated a sense of sportsmanship by stepping down for Atiku Abubakar in 2023, prioritizing the development of the northern region,” she remarked. She further questioned the actions of Kaura regarding the PDP crisis, pointing out that during the prolonged disagreements between Governor Wike and Fubara over leadership in Rivers State, no resolution was pursued until the situation escalated, leading to the suspension of the Governor and the declaration of a state of emergency.
“If he is genuinely interested in resolving the PDP crisis, he must first address the challenges within his own state of Bauchi and work towards finding a peaceful solution for Rivers State, including the reinstatement of Governor Fubara,” she suggested. The statement called on Muhammed to demonstrate humility and stressed that divisive rhetoric could undermine the unity of the PDP. “The PDP stands today because of the loyalty, sacrifice, and vision of men like Atiku Abubakar,” Aliyu declared, calling for mutual respect to safeguard the party’s future.
