Linton 15 CHELMSFORD 6 Ruff 24, 31, 54, Bland 33, Crichlow 76, Murphy 84 WEYMOUTH were well beaten in their final game of the National League South after being hit for six by a rampant Chelmsford City at the Bob Lucas Stadium. Despite taking an early lead through Malachi Linton, a first half brace from Charlie Ruff and a goal from Jacob Bland saw the away side race into a 3-1 lead by half time. Ruff added a third for his hattrick in the second period before goals from Kane Crichlow and Jett Murphy rounded off the rout as the Terras bowed out of the league with a whimper.
Terras boss Warren Feeney was forced to field a very inexperienced bench with several under 23 players helping to fill the dugout. There were also starts for the young duo of Will Armstrong and Kelson Pollard as the Terras boss was left with a thin squad for the game. Back up keeper Lloyd Thomas also started in place of the ever present Will Buse who was on the bench.
Within the opening ten minutes Weymouth were given a warning as Ruff had the ball in the back of the net but the striker's effort was chalked off for offside. Surprisingly though, the hosts took the lead after 15 minutes after some brilliant play by the young Pollard who fed Linton for his seventh goal of the campaign. Five minutes later Linton came close to doubling the Terras lead after Brandon Goodship put the ball on a plate for the forward but Ruaridh Donaldson did well to get back and hook the ball away and deny what looked like a certain goal.
Chelmsford drew level in the 24th minute though through Ruff who fired a first time shot from the edge of the box into the net. From there on out Chelmsford took control of the game and soon found themselves with a two goal lead before half time. Ruff added his second in the 31st minute after Crichlow weaved his way through the Terras midfield before finding Sam Oguntayo who played in Ruff for his and Chelmsford's second.
Minutes later Bland added the third after getting on the end of Crichlow's low drilled cross into the box. As the game neared half time Corey Jordan headed just wide of Ted Collins' post in a rare opportunity for the Terras. Weymouth came out well in the second half and Linton found himself close to adding to his goal in the 52nd minute but the striker's long range effort was well saved by Collins.
The game was well and truly put out of site for the hosts several minutes later though as Ruff completed his hattrick to earn himself the match ball. With around 20 minutes to go Goodship had a chance to reduce the deficit but the Terras striker saw his effort cleared off the line by Jamal Blackman. Chelmsford did not take their foot off the gas though and added a fifth in the 76th minute after Arthur Penney sent a long ball through to Critchlow who brought the ball down and rounded two Terras defenders before slotting the ball past Thomas.
Then, with five minutes of normal left to play, the rout was complete as Lester Ward's cross bounced off a Weymouth defender and fell kindly to Murphy who fired home for 6-1. WEYMOUTH: Thomas, McQuoid, Hamblin, Jordan, Armstrong (Brooks 56), Robinson, McCarthy, Bearwish, Pollard (Moss 56), Linton, Goodship CHELMSFORD CITY: Collins, Donaldson, Penney, Oguntayo, Barnum-Bobb, Bland, Hockey (Murphy 58), Ruff (Legg 66) Tamplin (Mupomba 74), Crichlow (Ward 80), Blackman (Hayes 80).
