How do you possibly follow what is easily the biggest and most jaw-dropping episode of a series, culminating with one of the biggest TV moments of the year? Joel Miller was brutally killed in episode two of The Last of Us season two, but the show must go on. The fallout of this harrowing scene was of course addressed, while Ellie took her next steps toward justice. There were some new characters and aspects to the series introduced, with some glaring omissions, which altogether made for a rather underwhelming episode of the show.
In fairness, following on from what happened in the last outing was always going to be a tough spot, and the bar for The Last of Us episodes has been set ridiculously high, but this chapter, 'The Path', needed to bring more to the table. It certainly wasn't a bad episode by any stretch, and could have been considered even better had it not been hamstrung by the fact that there really isn't the time in a seven-episode run for another slow burner like this one. At the very least, the story has moved to Seattle, where hopefully the rest of the season can be more exciting and explosive, but this was easily the weakest episode of season two so far.
Of course, spoilers to follow...
8. Down - The Seraphites One of the biggest points to take away from this episode of The Last of Us is that the story is now moving away from Jackson. Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) have made their way to Seattle, and with that comes the introduction of a new set of characters.
There was plenty of information given about the Wolves, who they are, and the idea that there are far more of them than either Ellie or Dina anticipated, but there was also a brief glimpse of the Seraphites. The cult plays a major part in the game, though their introduction to the series was somewhat lacking. Though players of The Last of Us Part II will know who they are, those unfamiliar won't have been given much information, and what they were given was very expositional.
Essentially, what seemed like a father talking to his daughter about their prophet before having to hide and eventually being killed. Their brief time on screen didn't give much away, and certainly didn't give audiences a reason to be too distraught at their deaths. There should be more to come from the group as the season progresses, but they could have done with a stronger first impression.

An underwhelming follow-up to the biggest episode ever.
