The little UK seaside town so cheap homes next to beach sell for just £20k

This bargain property destination offers properties for sale 27 times cheaper than similar accommodation in London.

A seaside town on the northeastern coast of England boasts some of the cheapest property prices in the country - where a one-bedroom flat can be snapped up for as little as £20,000. Redcar, which is part of the local authority of Cleveland and in North Yorkshire, has a population of just over 37,000 and is blessed with beaches looking out onto the rugged North Sea. The town itself, which used to be home to a steel works employing thousands, has now something of a faded working class stoicism to it.

However, miles of sandy beaches and easy access to the North Yorks Moors National Park make the local area attractive, as well as good transport links to cities like Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. For property hunters looking for a bargain, a seafront flat in the town on Coatham Road carried a guide price of £20,000, while another flat on the same street started at £29,950. Jennifer Sanderson, director of Redcar Letting and Sales, also had a property on Pierson Street, near the beachfront, listed for £49,995, which she said attracted major interest, The Mirror reports.

She said: "I have sold quite a number of flats in the area for a similar price. This property is quite central and a few minutes into the town centre. "One of the flats I sold, they were looking for a holiday home by the sea that was affordable.

I think [investors] can get a lot for their money at the moment. There is a lot of out-of-town investment coming in." The town has higher than national average rates of child poverty and unemployment levels in the area are the fifth highest in the UK.

Redcar was hit hard with the devastating closure in 2015 of its steelworks, which led to the loss of 3,000 jobs. It is hoped this new investment may lead to a turnaround in the town’s economy. But thanks to the coastal location, Redcar was once famed as a fishing village and is now home to a popular horse racing course.

There is also an abundance of stunning landscape for visitors to explore as well as an "endless coastline", which Yorkshire.com says makes "Redcar a truly idyllic seaside resort". There is a wide stretch of golden sand, perfect for families with children after a bucket-and-spade break or day out.

There are also amusement arcades to keep children entertained. In colder months, it's an ideal peaceful spot to go for a long, blustery dog walk to blow away the cobwebs..
