Whether you fancy a pre or post lunch walk, they're just 10 minutes apart

Picturesque parks and lovely pubs are two things that always seem to be at the top of people's lists when trying to find something to do on a spring afternoon. Going for a walk with the dog and then having a pub lunch is arguably a favourite past-time for Surrey folk - and who can blame us - we truly are spoilt for choice in both fields across the county. One area which ticks these boxes is the village of Cranleigh .

Based in the borough of Waverley and just a 25 minute drive from Guildford , Cranleigh, which has been coined as the largest village in England, has many highly-rated pubs and a number of scenic places to go for a walk. However, one lovely pub and free-to-use park deserve a specific spotlight, both independently make a great pub to visit for a meal, and a scenic walk with the dog and family. But, considering they are less than a 10 minute walk from one another - it only makes sense to combine them to create a lovely afternoon out this spring and even onwards for summer.

The Richard Onslow pub in the High Street has been described by online reviewers as a "lovely pub" with a "good menu", "excellent service" and "easy access and off street parking". TripAdvisor places the gastropub, which also doubles as a bed and breakfast, as the number one restaurant in Cranleigh based on customer reviews. But, it is not just visitors who rate the dog-friendly pub highly, it won the 'Best Sustainable Pub Company' at The Publican Awards in 2022.

And, more recently in 2024; the gastropub was awarded the maximum three star rating in the Food Made Good Awards held by the Sustainable Restaurant Association. When combining your pub lunch with a walk at the picturesque Knowle Country Park, it creates what can only be described as a brilliant day out of walking and eating. Opened in May 2023, the 60-acre, dog-friendly country park has free parking, a lake, picnic and play areas, and an amphitheatre.

Cranleigh's Knowle Park has been described as feeling like a holiday when visited in summer. The park, which is maintained as a community trust, often hosts seasonal events, most recently, they hosted their annual Easter egg hunt; which saw nearly 250 children under 10 running around the park alongside an 'Easter bunny' as they searched for seasonal treats. Dogs are allowed at the country park, however man's best friend is not permitted to enter the adventure playground, lake, river, Osier Bed ancient woodland or wetland corner.

There are signs dotted around the park which display where your dog is and is not allowed off-lead.
