A new variant has been identifed this spring which could soon become the most dominant strain

Spring usually marks the end of seasonal viruses like flu and coronavirus in a large part of the population. But it also marks the beginning of seasonal allergies, like hayfever. Many of the symptoms like coughs and colds are interchangeable across a lot of illnesses, so it is hard to pinpoint exactly what you are suffering with.

It has been more than four years since Covid-19 was first discovered, and we quickly learnt that the respiratory virus displayed many different symptoms, and also developed into different variations, and different symtpoms with that. In spring 2024, another new Covid variant was discovered, and questions have been raised about how effective the vaccine is at preventing its spread. The variant has been dubbed FLiRT, and was first identified in north America where a subvariant known as KP.



2 currently makes up around 25% of cases in the US and is being predicted as the next dominant variant. Other subvariants spreading include JN.1 and KP.
