One of our huge concerns during the $Rump maladministration is the deportation of people without due process. It doesn’t matter what accusations are leveled against them, one problem is that they have not had their day in court. As long as people are deported without an objective evaluation of any accusations against them, then any of us can be deported.
Furthermore, of course, even after conviction nobody should be deported to foreign prisons. It is illegal according to US law and the US Constitution, www.npr.

No prison should be operated like El Salvador prisons seem to be operated, subjecting prisoners to crowded and dirty living conditions and possibly torture, and without access to legal remedies, as addressed by the United Nations’ Nelson Mandela rules . Deportation also appears to be an international crime against the Fourth Geneva Convention . But the $Rump maladministration has been claiming that there was nothing they could do to bring prisoners back to the US after the planes were in the air.
They lied and continue to lie, of course. Eight women were on those planes and El Salvador apparently decided that they had no facilities to imprison them. So they were indeed sent back on the same planes that tried to be used to deport them.
They were re-imprisoned in the US. Now at least two of the women are bravely speaking out , from the detention center where they have been held, at some risk to themselves (bolding mine): “We thought that perhaps the treatment from people in this country would be different toward us,” she said, but after what happened with the flights, she is sad and disappointed with the United States and just wants to be deported back to her home country, Venezuela. But her son, now 2 years old, is in the care of a relative, and she does not know whether they will be reunited .
“I am very afraid, because I have always been with my son,” she said. “I have always looked after my son, but I don’t know. I wouldn’t know what to tell you.
” Their account of eight women being mistakenly taken to El Salvador and men on the flights declaring their innocence stands in contrast to the Trump administration’s claims of certainty about the fairness of the deportations. Senior members of the administration have said there is no need for judges to review the cases of those sent to El Salvador before their deportations. And they have dismissed questions from the media about their vetting process.
-snip- “Imagine you go with a future, with an aspiration, a hope, and when you get there and they give you an appointment ...
and you present yourself with an appointment, you get detained. As if you’re a criminal, ” Yelitza Rodriguez said, arguing that her family was humble and that her daughter had done nothing wrong. Remember these women when $Rump defiantly claims they did everything right and they could never turn the planes around and they won’t do anything different.
The women’s presence back in the US and their stories of the maladministration’s confusion continue to provide a bright contrast to the ongoing lies of $Resident $Rump and his MAGA minions.
