Coleman Boulevard continues to be a hotbed for DUI arrests, as two motorists were collared on April 24 after Mount Pleasant police spotted both driving erratically. Traffic stops in both instances were initiated shortly after midnight, with one suspect seen speeding and swerving into the bicycle lane on Coleman Boulevard and Fairmont Avenue. The 28-year-old White female did not perform her SFSTs (Standardized Field Sobriety Tests) up to standard and was subsequently brought into custody, according to police.
During the investigation, the subject informed officers that she had consumed a cup of wine at a friend's house. She later registered a 0.13 when asked to submit a breath sample.
That number, while considered a violation of DUI laws in South Carolina, does not fall into the high BAC category. The second arrest resulted from Mount Pleasant cops observing a 25-year-old White female driving 51 mph in a 35 mph stretch along Coleman Boulevard and Houston Northcutt Boulevard. After initially claiming to not drinking that night, the suspect later conceded that she drank two beers at a local ice house.
The alleged offender was cuffed after improperly performing her SFST tasks. She then refused to provide a breath sample when transported to the stationhouse, police said. Responding officers served the suspect with a license suspension.
Both arrests were of the DUI 1st variety..
