At a Timmins Police Service Board meeting this week, chair Kraymr Grenke gave an update on recruitment efforts, saying 86 officers are on staff with more to arrive this spring. “We have an officer that’s away at the Ontario Police College (and) we had a lateral hire that joined us, which is a great recruitment tool because that person is on the road a lot quicker,” Grenke said. “We look forward to having some hires at our next meeting to head into the June intake at the Ontario Police College.
” He added the police board has applied for funding to increase the number of closed-circuit television cameras in the community. “We know it’s been a proven tool,” Grenke said. “We’ve identified some regions, but we would also do a consultation with the downtown BIA, the chamber and different groups throughout the city to ensure that we have the coverage that we need.
” He said the Timmins Police Service currently has 24 cameras throughout the city and wants to multiply that by a few factors, whether it’s approved funding or not..
