Doha, Qatar: Toromona made a sensational return to form in the Al Jassasiya Cup yesterday. The seven-year-old gelding, owned by Rashid Awajan K A Al Khayarin and trained by Hamad Al Jehani, bounced back from a recent runner-up finish to secure a commanding victory at Al Rayyan Racecourse.
After briefly contesting the lead, Toromona surged ahead with a powerful burst of speed in the home straight, cruising to an huge 11-length win under jockey Lukas Delozier.
Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented the trophy to the winners.
The 42nd Al Rayyan Race Meeting featured seven races, with The Dunkirk Lads, ridden by Soufiane Saadi, claiming the Thoroughbred Handicap 65-85 (Class 4) title.
Jockey Ivan Rossi guided Afandem to victory in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap 65-85 (Class 4), while Jefferson Smith rode AJS Safwan to triumph in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 35-55 (Class 4).
Qahwa, with Trevor Patel in the saddle, kicked off the day with an impressive win in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate. This was followed by victories for Prince D’ossau (Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate) under Youssef Lachhab and Kera De Flauzins (Purebred Arabian Handicap 0-70), piloted by Abdelakrime Bendia.
