Even there will not be any restriction on the movement of vehicles on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar and Chenani-Sudh Mahadev-Latti-Dudu road, except for checking at some designated points.
According to an order issued by Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary, on the request of the Project Director, NHAI, Ramban PIU, the traffic movement will not be allowed on the highway for executing repair work from 8 am on Sunday to 8 am on Monday.DIG Traffic Jammu, Dr Haseeb Mughal when contacted said that the traffic will remain suspended on the 250-km highway, the only all weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, between Ramban and Ramsoo which suffered damages at several places, especially between Maroog and Seri following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains and cloudbursts on April 20.“There will be no movement of any kind of vehicle after 5 pm today (Saturday) from Qazigund towards Jammu and from Udhampur towards Srinagar.
Load carrier operators carrying perishable items or live stock are advised to load their vehicles accordingly,” he added.The one-way traffic on the highway was restored on April 23 to facilitate stranded passengers to move out of Kashmir following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam a day earlier. The attack left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead.
In his order, the Deputy Commissioner Ramban said,” granted sanction to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for taking the 24-hour traffic haltage to undertake the widening of damaged road portion in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the commuters.”Project Director NHAI, Ramban, PK Phonsa said that in fact 7 kms stretch of the road between Seri and Maroog is worst affected, burying dozens of vehicle including trucks and damaging the retaining walls and vehicle parapets. He said one tube at Tunnel T-2 is also blocked and it is yet to be cleared.
“We had demanded at least 24 hours time for clearing double lanes of the NH-44 between Maroog and Ramban town. We are hopeful to achieve the target within the stipulated time frame. He said near Cafeteria Morh, the road has caved in and it is single at small stretch and will take some more time to repair it,” he added.
SSP Rural, Jammu G L Sharma said that only Light Motor Vehicles will be allowed on Mughal Road and the vehicles going from Jammu side will have to cross Sunderbani by 11 am and Chandimarh Naka ahead of Bafliaz by 4 pm. From Shopian side vehicles will have to cross Heerpur Naka by 4 pm while moving towards Poonch-Rajouri, he added.Sharma said for heavy vehicles the road is not traffic worthy.
