A heartbreaking incident unfolded over the weekend in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area, as 53-year-old Iyabo Akinnawo tragically passed away just eight hours before her son’s wedding. While the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear at the time of this report, sources close to the family reveal that the deceased, a well-known businesswoman in the community, had been preparing for the wedding when the fatal event occurred. An anonymous source shared that Iyabo had visited a salon to get her hair done for the wedding, and after returning home, she complained of a severe headache.

She reportedly went to bed to rest, but a few hours later, as she was preparing to handle wedding matters, she collapsed and died shortly after regaining consciousness. Despite the desperate efforts of her family to revive her, they were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead shortly after. Other accounts suggest that the businesswoman, who had been in good health, had just returned from the market where she had bought supplies for the wedding.

One eyewitness mentioned that she had traveled home by motorcycle that day. Her sudden death has left the community in shock, with many speculating that it could have been caused by a heart attack or cardiac arrest. Upon visiting the area, The Correspondent found a gathering of family members and residents still reeling from the tragic news.

In response to inquiries, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Yaba Police Station, Mr. Victor Olowolagba, stated that the report had not yet been officially filed with the police. He assured that the matter would be followed up once a formal complaint is made.
