A Kansas company with operations in several Colorado cities announced last week it is laying off 104 employees in the state. The company, Lenexa, Kansas-based Hallcon, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment on Thursday . It is unclear what prompted the layoffs, which began last week and will conclude in June, according to documents submitted to the state office.
Hallcon did not respond to a request for comment. Hallcon provides transportation services for multiple industries, including railroad companies, manufacturing, airports and public transportation agencies, according to the company’s website. In Colorado Hallcon operates a fleet of passenger vans that transports railroad crews to their locations, based on existing job listings.
Despite the layoffs, the company is still advertising van driver positions in Denver, Trinidad, Pueblo, Grand Junction and La Junta — all locations highlighted in the WARN listing. It is not clear if these job listings are still active. The date of the job listing is from December of 2024.
At least some workers being laid off in the WARN announcement appear to be represented by the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers Union Local 1477. Local 1477 is based out of Trinidad and had 68 members in 2023 according to documents filed with the Department of Labor. That is down since 2020, when the union had 118 members.
It is not clear how many of the laid-off employees are members of the union and a union representative listed in the WARN documents did not respond ahead of print time..
