Tributes have been paid to a “loving mother” and “loyal friend” who died unexpectedly this month – with a fundraiser set up to support her son raising over £3,500.Janet Ahumuza passed away in the early hours of Tuesday 8 April at the Jersey General Hospital.An inquest into the death of the 42-year-old was opened on Friday by Deputy Viscount Matt Berry.

The hearing was given brief details about Ms Ahumuza suffering breathing difficulties on Monday 7 April, with an ambulance being called and efforts being made by paramedics to resuscitate her at the scene, continuing on arrival at General Hospital.Efforts proved unsuccessful and Ms Ahumuz died at 01:05 on Tuesday 8 April, the inquest heard.Police Coroners Officer Kate Falle said there were no suspicious circumstances around Ms Ahumuza’s death, and that there was no objection to her body being released to allow funeral arrangements to be progressed.

Mr Berry expressed his condolences to Ms Ahumuza’s partner before adjourning the inquest until 20 November.A fundraising page set up in memory of Ms Ahumuza described her as “vibrant and joyful soul, always bringing laughter and light to those around her”.“Her kindness and infectious spirit touched the lives of many,” it said.

“We are heartbroken by her loss and want to ensure that her son is supported as he faces a future without her.”You can donate to the fundraiser set up to support Ms Ahumuza’s family online via GoFundMe.The money raised will be used for funeral expenses and to support her “cherished” son.
