WWE legend Triple H was taken aback when a statue of him was revealed at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The veteran, who made his WWE debut all the way back in 1992, was one of the key people being inducted into the Hall of Fame in Winchester, Nevada on Friday night. It proceeds WrestleMania 41, which will come to our TV screens tonight.
Triple H was modest compared to the sea of cheering and applause around him, but his first words were, “Wow, it came out good”, and that was the feeling of many at the ceremony. Never one to take himself too seriously, when a microphone was put in front of him, he remarked: “They made my nose look bigger than it is - I don’t know how that happened!” If Triple H fancied criticising this piece, it’s a good job he didn’t get certain other statues presented to him that have been presented to athletes over the years, which have been a bit more hit or miss than this one. The most famous blunder was always the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, unveiled with him in person at a Portuguese airport that was being renamed in his honour, but it ended up looking less Ronaldo and more Sloth from The Goonies.
Other memorable ones include the statue of David Beckham in America that was a striking silver, and Andy Murray’s prize for winning the Shanghai Rolex Masters, which depicted him in a revolutionary war outfit. This Triple H statue will no doubt go down in history for the right reasons, as most WWE statues do. I have been at the forefront of making these for a lot of talent over the years, including the biggest legends like The Undertaker, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and Roddy Piper.
So to see one of me, I don’t know if there’s a bigger honour for anything you can do in life than to have them make a statue for you, so I’m incredibly touched and incredibly honoured, and I’m just glad my family can be here to see it.” Speaking later on during the main ceremony, he spoke more from the heart of Paul Levesque than Triple H as he expressed thank you’s to important people that had led him up to this moment, including the fans that had allowed him to rise up the ranks during his career. “Call it fans, call it the WWE Universe.
.. none of us are anything without you.
You have made this dream possible, whether you loved me or hated me. You’ve taken a normal kid from New Hampshire, and you’ve made it into a dream that he could never write, and I’m always grateful for that. I promise you I will do everything in my power to take this business that we all love and keep it alive for the next generation who will look after it when I’m gone.
” Triple H acknowledged and addressed Vince McMahon during his WWE Hall of Fame speech, despite the ongoing controversies..
