Donald Trump recently went all out in an effort to reverse a Joe Biden-era program, only to hurt his own voters in the process, according to a report. Greg Sargent , staff writer at the New Republic, wrote over the weekend that the president "grew angry over a Biden-era program with the word 'equity' in its name, so he ended it." "But a key part of the program was sending money to red states to expand internet access in rural/MAGA country.
Now they might not get it," Sargent wrote on social media. EXCLUSIVE: Breastfeeding mom of US citizen sues Kristi Noem after being grabbed by ICE Sargent is referring to the Digital Equity Act, which "caught the White House’s attention" because of its use of "equity." "So now Trump is moving to nix funding—but it could cut off millions destined for red America," he wrote Saturday in an article entitled "Angry Trump Kills 'Woke' Program—and Accidentally Screws MAGA Voters.
" According to Sargent, Trump noticed the "equity" program and concluded that "this could only mean the initiative was designed to help undeserving minorities." "Which presented Trump with a ripe opportunity to demagogue about supposed reverse racism against white people," he wrote. "Except there’s a problem here.
The program in question, the Digital Equity Act, contained huge amounts of money for governments in GOP-run states, as well as Democratic ones, to expand high-speed internet access in underserved communities—very much including red states’ rural areas." Going even further, Sargent says, "What’s more, every red state government had submitted proposals designed to garner their states large amounts of this funding." "These proposals were explicitly designed by these GOP governments partly to serve their states’ rural areas," he added.
