Two friends killed in motorcycle accident near Jejuri

1 2 3 Pune: Two friends returning from Yatra in a village near Jejuri died after their motorcycle collided head-on with a minitruck on Jejuri-Kolvihire road, about 50km from the city, in the early hours of Tuesday. The Jejuri police identified the deceased duo as Prashant Shinde (21) and Mujammil Shaikh (22), both from Jejuri. The minitruck driver suffered severe injuries in the accident.

He is undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. Investigating officer Munir Mujawar from the Jejuri police said Shinde and Shaikh were friends. They went to a village near Jejuri for ‘Yatra' on Monday night.



"When they were returning home around 12.30am, their motorcycle collided head-on with the minitruck, heading towards Kolvihire road," he said. Mujawar said Shinde died on the spot, while Shaikh and the mini-truck driver suffered severe injuries.

They were taken to a hospital, where Shaikh succumbed to injuries. "We have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating how the accident occurred. We are yet to record the statement of the minitruck driver," Mujawar said.
