There were empty liquor bottles in the vehicle. Sonawane was stabbed in the chest, and his throat was slit with a sharp weapon.

"We did not have any clues about the assailants. We collected CCTV footage from the neighbouring shops and alerted our informers," Kankal said. The officer said the police received information that on Monday night, Sonawane was with his two acquaintances.

"We took the duo into custody. During sustained interrogation, they revealed that on Monday night, they were consuming liquor in the abandoned SUV. They stabbed Sonawane to death as he abused them over some issue.

We have registered a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the duo," Kankal said..
