Overnight Russian drone and missile attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Sumy have killed at least two people and wounded dozens more, Ukrainian authorities said Friday. President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of stepping up its attacks on civilian targets following an agreement last month not to target energy infrastructure. A Russian missile attack on Ukraine 's northeastern city of Kharkiv killed one person and injured 57 more on Friday morning, emergency services said.

Five children were among those injured in the attack, which also damaged apartment buildings, an educational institution and a civilian enterprise, they added in a Telegram post. Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Ukraine's second biggest city, said the attack damaged 15 apartment buildings based on preliminary information. "According to preliminary information, the strikes on Kharkiv were carried out by ballistic missiles with cluster munitions.

That is why the affected areas are very large," he said. Reuters photos from the scene showed emergency workers giving first aid to people with bleeding wounds near one of the apartment buildings. Russia and Ukraine agreed to a US-brokered moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure last month, but both sides have accused each other since of violating it.

A Friday morning drone attack on Sumy, another northeastern city, also killed one person and injured another at a factory baking Easter cakes.
