A 'bad' multi-car smash between two vehicles and several parked cars led to two people needing to be pulled from the wreckage. Emergency services were called to reports of the crash at Horwich’s Middlebrook Shopping Centre at around 3.30pm today, Thursday.

Two fire engines from Bolton Central and Horwich rushed to the scene, along with a rescue unit from Leigh. Crews cut two cars open, rescuing a man and a woman from them. The two people were then assessed at the scene by trauma technicians.

Onlookers described the aftermath of the crash as ‘pretty bad’, leaving one car mangled with its roof cut off and not ‘a lot left of it’. David Gerrard, a retired Westhoughton resident, said: “When we arrived at Middlebrook Shopping Centre there were fire marshals stopping you entering from the big roundabout – they’d closed part of the road. “We could see about five different fire brigades and a mixture of appliances.

It didn’t look like there was an awful lot left of it.
