The district administration of Islamabad on Sunday sealed two shopping malls located in Sector D-17 for a violation of the government labour laws and not paying the minimum wage of Rs37,000/- per month to the employees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

A spokesman for the district administration said that employees of these shopping malls performed their duties between 12 and 14 hours daily, but their owners paid them Rs18,000 to Rs20,000 monthly, much below the government-approved minimum labour wage. The owners of these shopping malls did not allow their employees to avail their monthly leaves and their leaves were treated as without pay.

The spokesman said that this operation was conducted after directives from Assistant Commissioner Islamabad Yasir Nazir. It is necessary to mention here that the federal government had directed the deputy commissioner Islamabad to ensure the implementation of labour laws in the federal capital..
