Ludhiana: In a surprise move, the railway overbridge (ROB) near Hero Bakery Chowk, which was meant for one-way traffic, was opened for two-way traffic. Civic officials denied any information about the move, which they attributed to the traffic police. The ROB is designed for traffic heading from Pakhowal Road moving towards Hero Bakery.
A railway underbridge has been constructed at Pakhowal Road for traffic from Hero Bakery to Pakhowal Road. The road is designed to divide the traffic between the ROB and RUB. The MC got an award under the Smart City Mission for the project.
Traffic police even damaged dividers on both sides to facilitate traffic movement. Sarabha Nagar resident Rahul Verma, who shared the video of the two-way bridge on a public platform, said, "There can be accidents as traffic coming from under the ROB merges with the main traffic or vice-versa." He also said that authorities should have consulted experts before taking such a step.
An MC official, requesting anonymity, said, "We were not asked about this two-way concept, and even we saw it after it was done." Traffic officials claimed that it was done on public demand on trial basis. MSID:: 120648747 413 |.
