The nut has been cultivated for about 9,000 years. Not only is it a source of fibre and protein, it is also reputed to be an aphrodisiac – which may be why it is known as the 'happy nut' in China.

Pistachio Easter eggs are all the rage. A 330g Venchi Pistachio Chocoviar Egg from Selfridges costs £52.99, but those on a modest budget can try a 260g Lindt Lindor Pistachio Easter Egg for £10 from Tesco with a Clubcard.
