Catherine (Chengchu) Liu, PhD, a distinguished figure in the field of food science and a tenured professor at the University of Maryland, has been recognized as a 2024 IFT Fellow by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). This honor is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional career achievements and contributions to the science of food profession. Dr.

Liu’s journey to becoming an IFT Fellow is filled with academic and professional accomplishments. With a career spanning roles at esteemed institutions such as the FDA’s Gulf Coast Seafood Laboratory, Oregon State University and Shanghai University, she has made significant impacts in the realm of food science. At the University of Maryland, she leads the Maryland Sea Grant Technology Extension Program, where she imparts her knowledge to students and professionals from around the globe.



The recognition as an IFT Fellow underscores Liu’s commitment to excellence and leadership in the field of food science. Her selection among the 2024 class of IFT Fellows recognizes her service to the Institute of Food Technologists and her pivotal contributions to advancing food science.
