SHAH ALAM: Two men and a woman have been arrested for allegedly being hired to carry out arson attacks and splash paint on properties belonging to loan defaulters.Investigations revealed that the two men had been recruited by an illegal moneylender based in Singapore.Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the trio were apprehended during a special operation conducted on April 8 and 9 in Kepong and Bukit Jalil.
"Our investigation found that the woman, who is married to one of the men, was responsible for recording videos of their actions to provide proof to their employer that the tasks had been completed," he told reporters today.He said that the suspects were paid between RM1,000 and RM1,500 for Molotov cocktail attacks, and between RM600 and RM900 for acts of paint vandalism."These individuals also subcontracted the jobs to others via Facebook, offering payments ranging from RM300 to RM800 depending on the assignment.
"Our investigations have so far linked the group to nine cases across Selangor, Perak, Johor, and Negri Sembilan," he said, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish whether the suspects were involved in other incidents.Efforts are also underway to identify additional suspects, including their employer in Singapore."All three suspects have no prior criminal records.
The two men have been remanded for six days, while the woman has been released on police bail," he added.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
