U.S. Rowing last week named Nick Mead its Man of the Year for 2024 as part of its annual awards.
Mead, an Episcopal Academy grad, was part of the American men’s four that won gold at the Paris Olympics. He was selected by Team USA athletes to be the male flagbearer for the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics, joining female swimmer Katie Ledecky. He’s the first American rower to get that honor.
Mead also competed in the Tokyo Olympics, as part of the eight-man boat. He is a nine-time national team member who won silver at the 2023 World Rowing Championships with the eventual Olympic four boat. Mead was also named the 2024 Daily Times Sports Figure of the Year.
Mead is a graduate of Princeton University, where he captained the rowing squad. He raced at the U-19 and U-23 levels before joining the senior team in 2017, when he won a World Championships silver medal in the men’s coxed eight. Mead also won this award, voted on by the organization’s eight-member Board of Directors, in 2021 and 2023.
