In a delightful blend of diplomacy and gastronomy, US Second Lady Usha Vance recently made time during the official Vice Presidential visit to India to explore one of Jaipur's most beloved culinary institutions - Rawat Mishthan Bhandar, famed for its iconic pyaaz kachori. During the Vance family's four-day cultural tour of India, which included a high-profile visit to the historic Amber Fort, Mrs Vance slipped away from the formal itinerary to experience the authentic flavours that have made Rawat Mishthan Bhandar a cherished landmark for over five decades. Though her visit wasn’t long, it was packed with goodies.
As per the staff, Vance purchased a selection of products including Ghevar, Pistachio Laddu, Cashew Watermelon, Honey Laddu and Kaju Katli all of which the team gifted her free of charge. In a post on Instagram, the team welcomed the second lady saying, "We were honored to welcome the second lady of the United States to Rawat Misthan Bhandar! Her visit was a moment of pride and joy for us. We are thrilled to share our rich heritage and delicious flavors with such esteemed guests.
" The Legacy Of Rawat Misthan Bhandar Established in 1972, Rawat Mishthan Bhandar has grown from its humble beginnings to become a culinary cornerstone of Jaipur. The shop represents the continuation of a 120-year family legacy in sweet-making that began with their first establishment in Jodhpur. Located in Jaipur's Sindhi Camp area, the shop has become so renowned that it serves as a geographical reference point for locals and visitors alike.
Though the spot has many delights to offer, it’s the signature dish - the pyaaz kachori - that people keep coming back for the most profound impression. This Rajasthani delicacy features a crisp, deep-fried maida (refined flour) crust filled with a flavourful mixture of mashed potato and finely chopped fried onions, delicately seasoned with house spices and a hint of garlic. Though famous for its pyaaz kachori, Rawat Mishthan Bhandar offers a wide array of traditional Indian sweets and snacks.
The shop is also known for its mirchi bhaaji, mava kachori, and the honeycomb-shaped ghevar sweet that is particularly popular during festivals.
