The tunnel, which is 4.531 km long and unidirectional with two lanes, will connect Dharasu and Yamunotri. The long-awaited breakthrough of the Barkot-Silkyara Bend Tunnel Project, a key development along NH-134, has been officially marked today.

The tunnel, which will reduce travel time between Dharasu and Yamunotri from nearly an hour to just five minutes, was unveiled in the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta. The Barkot-Silkyara Bend Tunnel, which spans 4.531 km, is a two-lane unidirectional structure that will improve all-weather connectivity between Dharasu and Yamunotri.



This tunnel will significantly reduce travel time from around an hour to just five minutes, making a huge impact on regional trade, tourism, and socio-economic development, while also protecting the area’s delicate forest ecosystems. The engineering firm Rodic Consultants played a key role in supervising the construction. From quality checks and safety measures to smart tech solutions, Rodic ensured that work met the highest standards.

With the tunnel breakthrough complete, the project now moves into its final phase, which includes road surface works and setting up electrical and mechanical systems.
