In a video uploaded by one Santaner Tedranes Iray, Vic could be seen introducing his son during a campaign sortie in Santolan, Pasig.
Vico is seeking reelection for his third and last term as mayor of the city. “Eto na po ang ating minamahal na mayor, Mayor Vico Sotto,” said Vic as cheers erupted from the crowd. But the local chief executive was nowhere to be found, as his entire Team Giting ticket — including vice mayoral candidate Dudut Jaworski and Pasig Rep.
Roman Romulo seemingly looked around for him. Not a minute later, Vico suddenly appeared on the balcony of a private supporter’s house, waving to the crowd in typical Jose Manalo fashion in the “Eat Bulaga” segment “Sugod Bahay, Mga Kapatid,” which Vic has been hosting. “Mga kababayan! Ipinatawag ko kayong lahat, sapagkat ngayon ang birthday ng aking ama,” said Vico, to the delight of the crowd.
“Papa, maraming salamat. Batiin naman natin sya ng Happy birthday,” he told them. “Alam nyo mga kaibigan, kaninang umaga sabi ng aking ama, gusto nyang bumisita sa Barangay Santolan.
Sabi ko, ‘Pa, wag na, baka mapagod ka.’ Pero sabi ni papa, ‘Bakit, bata pa naman ako ah.’ Kaya Barangay Santolan, eto na po.
Ang tanong ko po sa inyo, handa na po ba tayo? Excited na po ba tayo? Yung mga nasa likod, may energy pa po ba tayo?” he said. (Everyone! I asked to gather you here today to share that it is my father’s birthday. Dad, thank you very much.
Let us greet him with a happy birthday. Friends from Barangay Santolan, my father said this morning that he wanted to visit. I said, “Pa, no.
You might get tired.” But he said, “Why? I’m still young.” That’s why barangay Santolan, this is it, are you ready? Are you excited.
Those at the back, do you still have energy?) Vico again drew laughs when he wondered how he was going to get down from the balcony of the house. “Teka, sandali lang, iniisip ko kung pano ako bababa. Hinihiling ko lang po ang konting katahimikan.
Timeout lang po muna tayo, one-minute intermission number po muna,” he said as he exited the balcony and went down below to join his father and the rest of his ticket. (Wait a second, I’m thinking how I am supposed together down from here. I will need a moment of silence here, I need a time out.
Let’s have a one-minute intermission number first.) Vic is set to turn 71 on April 28. Vico is his son with former Bulaga co-host Coney Reyes.
Vico’s parents have been supportive of his political pursuits, accompanying him in various campaign sorties and even during his filing of certificate of candidacy. Meanwhile, Manalo has been nicknamed “Meyor Jose” in “Eat Bulaga,” playing the role of a politician who gives out prizes to his “constituents” at the same time hosting the minor games in the barangays that their team visits. He would often start his spiel with “Ipinatawag ko kayong lahat,” much to the delight of the viewers.
