Photo by Quality Sport Images/Getty Images A new challenge Barcelona legend Victor Valdes is set to return to coaching with Spanish fourth tier side Real Avila.Valdes has been confirmed as the team’s coach until the end of next season as he gets back to work in football.Here’s the official statement:“Real Ávila CF announces that Víctor Valdés will be the new first-team coach until the end of this season and the following campaign.
“After retiring from football, Valdés coached the youth teams of Barça, the Moratalaz Football School and UE Horta. “From the club we want to wish him all the luck in the world in this new stage, convinced that his experience and commitment will be key to achieving the objectives set. “As for the technical team, Diego, Jonás, Joel, Alberto Garrosa and Víctor Garrosa will continue to be part of it, thus maintaining the stability and cohesion of the work team.
“We inform you that Rafa López was offered the opportunity to continue, but has decided not to continue voluntarily. Real Ávila CF would like to sincerely thank him for his professionalism and the services he provided during his time at the club.”Valdes hung up his boots in 2018 after a career which saw him make 535 appearances for Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.
The goalkeeper returned to work at the club as a youth coach but it ended in a messy split in 2019. He has been linked with a return to Barcelona on occasions since then but will now try a new challenge with Real Avila..
