The Royal Bolton Hospital's pedestrian entrance to the emergency department has been temporarily located. The transformation of Urgent Care care services at Royal Bolton Hospital is now underway. In order to keep services running as building work progresses, on Sunday 27 April the pedestrian access for the Emergency Department will be relocated to a temporary modular building outside the entrance.
Whether arriving by foot, car or taxi, patients will now need to use the new reception. Here they will be assessed by clinicians, before being seen at the appropriate department, if required. For other patients attending our Urgent Care services: Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) patients with a pre-booked appointment through NHS 111 can access the service directly through the main hospital entrance.
Children attending the Emergency Department can still access the service through the Paediatric Emergency Department entrance. Ambulances will still be received at the original entrance.
A spokesman for the hospital said: "We ask that patients bear with us during this period of time and ask that they are ready for initial assessment. "We will be implementing a one visitor policy with immediate effect and you may be asked to leave if you are not a patient receiving treatment. "Anyone who has an urgent medical need that isn’t an emergency and isn’t sure what to do should contact NHS 111 online at 111.

"NHS 111 can provide self-care advice, signpost to an appropriate local service, or book people in to be seen at their local pharmacy, GP practice or Emergency Department." A total of £1.74m will be invested to reconfigure the department and urgent treatment centre to help meet national targets for four-hour quality standard and ambulance handovers.
The building works are expected to take around 27 weeks to complete. Once the transformation work is complete, the hospital will have a new dedicated ambulance handover area, an additional rapid handover bay and a newly-designed and modern waiting room to support new ways of working to manage rising demand for services..
