Walmart shoppers ‘leave behind basket’ and threaten to boycott store complaining of closed self-checkouts & long lines

SOME Walmart shoppers are fed up with the store after dealing with another checkout change that has had them facing long lines. Walmart , Target , and other retailers have made headlines recently for revamping their self-checkout policies — often to limit or completely remove self-checkout options. Several Walmart locations have announced that they would take out all of their self-checkout machines since the company said that it would be remodeling hundreds of stores last year.

Just last week, the store leaders at Shrewsbury and Steelyard Walmarts in St. Louis, Missouri , and Cleveland, Ohio respectively, told customers that the machines would be removed in the next few weeks . But some stores have allegedly already closed self-checkout without re-opening regular cashier lanes, according to social media users.



"Walmart really closed half the self-checkout and only had two lanes open," one shopper ( @MisfitxSociety ) posted on X on Wednesday. "[I] had to leave that basket right where they had me," they wrote . Walmart leadership has generally given shoppers a few weeks' notice in official announcements about closing self-checkout.
