The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has announced a significant investment of N500 billion in the development of transmission infrastructure and networks across Nigeria.Engr. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, made this revelation on Thursday during an inspection of the 330/132/33kV Lafia Transmission Substation, accompanied by the company’s management team.

Adighije praised the facility as a world-class installation, stressing that it has greatly improved the quality of power supply to Nasarawa State and neighbouring regions. In a statement, Olufunke Nwankwo, General Manager of Corporate Communication and External Relations, quoted the NDPHC MD as saying: “We are at the Lafia transmission substation, which is a project completed by NDPHC and handed over to the Transmission Company of Nigeria. It is a 330/132/33kV substation, featuring two 150 MVA transformers, two 60 MVA transformers, and one 75 MVA reactor.

”“This is a project that meets world-class standards,” Adighije continued. “By all measures, it ranks among the best globally, adhering to international best practices. The NDPHC’s mandate is clear: we are here to provide essential infrastructure for the power sector, ensuring that our projects benefit the entire gas-to-electricity value chain.

”She went on to explain that NDPHC has committed over N500 billion to various transmission initiatives, including transmission lines, infrastructure, line-bay extensions, transformers, and substations throughout the power sector.Despite the ongoing liquidity crisis, Adighije reaffirmed the company’s dedication to the Nigerian government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to enhance power generation, transmission, and access to electricity across the country. She also addressed concerns regarding NDPHC’s capacity to generate power, stressing that the real issue lies in the gap between generation capacity and available transmission infrastructure.

“I want to make it clear to Nigerians that the issue is not a lack of generation capacity; in fact, we have more generation than the transmission infrastructure can handle,” she stated. “At NDPHC, we remain focused and committed to expanding transmission capacity to accommodate the excess generation.”Adighije, who also led a team on a courtesy visit to Nasarawa State Governor Engr.

Abdullahi Sule, thanked the governor for his support of the company. She noted that the recent Electricity Act has opened up the sector, enabling stakeholders to engage in bilateral transactions.“Thanks to the new law, we are now able to stimulate market activity, even in Nasarawa State, to ensure that electricity access reaches the last mile, benefiting both the state and the country,” she added.

In response, Governor Sule commended Adighije’s leadership, crediting her for driving significant improvements within the company. However, he pointed out that while the state now boasts top-tier transmission infrastructure, poor distribution networks have hindered effective power delivery.“We are transmitting less power than we can distribute,” he remarked.

“It’s crucial to work with all distribution companies. If they don’t take the load, it will be a waste. Without off-takers, generating power becomes meaningless, and the company cannot recoup its investments.
