It's loved for its milkshakes as much as its tasty burgers, so there's always excitement when Five Guys launches a new flavour. This month the American burger chain has dropped what it's calling 'the coolest shake of the season' - with a new bubblegum flavour. The menu addition gives Five Guys customers even more milkshake mix-in options to choose from – with now more than 1,000 ways for them to fully customise their shake from the ingredients list.

We popped along to the branch at Trafford Retail Park to give the new shake a try. While Five Guys is suggesting the new shake will make customers feel like they've turned back the clocks to the 2000s, for oldies like me, it's even further than that. One sip and I was transported back to the 1980s with the sound of the ice cream van playing in the background of my Salford street. Although with a juicy burger and those never-ending fries to go at too, who wouldn't have a smile on their face.

The bubblegum milkshake is available on its own, or to add to a combination. The retailer has also launched its new kids menu with a little hamburger, mini fries and mini soda for £7. "We’re thrilled to introduce a dedicated Five Guys menu for our younger fan base with our new menu options,” said Five Guys UK CEO John Eckbert. “At just £7, it’s a fantastic value that allows families to enjoy a delicious meal all together.” Founded in Virginia in 1986 and launched in the UK in 2013 in London’s Covent Garden, the American-diner style restaurant has become one of the UK’s most-loved restaurants with sites including Bolton Middlebrook, The Trafford Centre and Manchester Arndale.
