WEST FARGO — In recognition of Melanoma Monday and National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Mosaic Dermatology in West Fargo offered free skin cancer screenings Monday, May 5. Dr. Joanne Montgomery, a dermatologist and founder of the clinic, provided professional skin evaluations and emphasized the importance of early detection.

“Melanoma, you know, the deeper they go, and the more advanced the melanoma is, the more deadly it can be,” Montgomery said. “So when we catch them at a superficial stage, we’re able to remove them quite easily, and the overall prognosis is excellent. People do very well.

” Montgomery urged people to watch for moles with multiple colors, asymmetry, jagged borders, or changes over time — and to contact a local dermatologist if they notice any of those warning signs..
