Remember that. They’re going to need you. I love you, kid.
” Many viewers interpreted the heartfelt scene as Buck also leaving 9-1-1, not just Bobby. But it seems it was a passing of the torch, hinting at a major role for him moving forward in the series.Rather than signaling his exit, Bobby’s message to Buck was a sign of what was to come.
Showrunner Tim Minear confirmed that Bobby’s death was a “creative decision” made to shake up the show and deepen the emotional arc of the story. “If there’s really no chance that any of this peril in which these characters find themselves amounts to anything, I think the show could die,” he told TVLine. And with Bobby gone, Buck might just step into a more important role within 9-1-1.

Minear revealed that the next few episodes will focus on their grief. Athena will face the unimaginable loss of her husband. Though Bobby is gone, Minear confirmed that Peter Krause, who played the character, will make an appearance again this season, most likely in flashback scenes.
