WhatsApp is rolling out a new privacy feature—Advanced Chat Privacy—that adds an extra layer of protection to both personal and group chats. The feature was leaked earlier this month but has now been officially confirmed by the company. With Advanced Chat Privacy turned on, others in the chat can’t export conversations, auto-download shared media, or use messages for AI features.
Think of it as a way to keep your chats truly in-app. WhatsApp says the tool is especially useful in groups where not everyone knows each other well, especially in cases where sensitive topics are discussed. “This way, everyone in the chat has greater confidence that no one can take what is being said outside the chat,” the company said in its announcement.

WhatsApp says it’s working on expanding protections in future updates.
The update is rolling out globally starting today and should be available to all users with the latest version of the app..
