Director Sejal Shah candidly opened up about some jaw-dropping shooting sequences and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s dedication towards the film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is back on the screens, and this time, he is seen in his most intense avatar ever as he guns for Goa’s most powerful smuggling empire in Costao . His gripping crime drama, set to stream on ZEE5 from May 1, features the actor in action-packed sequences, performing daring stunts.

Now that the film is just a few days away from its grand premiere, the makers are pulling out all the stops to keep the excitement soaring. Speaking of which, director Sejal Shah sat for an interview with an entertainment news portal where she candidly opened up about some jaw-dropping shooting sequences and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s dedication towards the film. In the interview, she also revealed how the actor performed daring stunts for Costao without breaking a sweat.

During the interaction with Zoom, Sejal shared, “When it came to action, we wanted to do everything for real. We had a fantastic team, and I was fortunate to work with actors who were committed to performing their own stunts. Our goal was to make the audience feel a sense of real danger and provide the fight sequences with the kind of grit and weight that you rarely see on screen.

For example, Nawaz trained for weeks in boxing and sprinting. I’m lucky to have had him on board!" In the same conversation, Sejal shared a spine-chilling story about Nawazuddin during the shooting of the film. She revealed how he insisted on doing the stunt himself in a lake full of crocodiles despite not being a good swimmer.

Sejal said, “Nawaz always took on tough scenes with the most energy. There’s a moment in the film where he has to dive into a lake..

. but the lake had crocodiles! Nawaz insisted on doing it for real, even though he isn’t a great swimmer. He did it with full conviction.

" The director also shared another intense scene featuring a high-speed bike chase, where his bike’s brakes failed. “There’s also a chase sequence on a bike, where Nawaz did all the stunts himself. He later told me that during the scene, his bike brakes failed!" she revealed.

Speaking about the film, Sejal said that she found immense creative satisfaction in telling the story of Costao Fernandes. “The most fulfilling aspect was getting Costao Fernandes’ story out into the world. I was especially relieved when Costao watched the movie for the first time and had tears in his eyes.

It was important to me that the film stayed true to the real Costao—he demands truth, honesty, and integrity in everything he does," Sejal concluded. Coming to Costao, the gritty crime drama is based on the life of Costao Fernandes—a fearless customs officer in the 1990s who dares to dismantle an elaborate gold smuggling racket. The film, directed by Sejal Shah, explores the dark underbelly of smuggling operations and features adrenaline-pumping and action-packed scenes.

Mark your calendars! The film will be released directly on Zee5 on May 1. Headlined by Nawazuddin, who plays the role of the customs officer, the film also stars Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar Huli, Gagan Dev Riar and Hussain Dalal in key roles. It is produced by Vinod Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Shyam Sunder, Sejal Shah and Faizuddin Siddiqui.

With its mix of suspense, raw emotional stakes and action, Costao promises to take viewers not just on a thrilling ride but also show Nawazuddin Siddiqui in his most intense avatar ever..
