Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron’s final presser took place as they prepare for their April 20 clash. The fight takes place at light heavyweight, as the pair runs things back in their rematch. The first fight finished as a split-decision technical draw, as the bout ended in the fifth round: 58-57, 57-58, and 58-58.
This was after they both fell through the ropes, after which Whittaker could not continue. Cameron felt he was deprived of a win, accusing Whittaker of quitting. Whittaker shut down those claims, as both sides have plenty of reasons to feel they can come out victorious.
The fighters also had a disputed over the number of round. Whittaker’s team wanted 10 rounds, while Cameron wanted the full 12-round distance. The pair eventually settled on 10 rounds, but they had plenty of heated words to say.
Presser “I believe that was the best chance to get me and he didn’t. Now Sunday it’s all fresh and it’s all new, so we’ll see. I’m happy what’s happened to his career but sadly we end that Sunday.
I’ve got structure and it’s been a great camp. He’s a great person to be around. I’m picking up things and learning things.
Last night I got told it was eight. We’ve done many rounds and we’ll see.” Whittaker “They paid me an absolute fortune.
He could have called my bluff. I could have been wanting to do the 10 all this time. I dreamed for these moments.
How can I complain? I’m here, I’m ready, I’m in much better shape [than the first fight]. Let the games begin in the ring now. I’ve given myself the best opportunity.
I’ve put myself in a frame of mind, a mental state, where I’ll be scared. I’ll be that scared dog in the changing room and that brings the best out of me. It’s been magical and we’re going to put on a big show,” Cameron Prediction “Ben Whittaker started quite well.
Liam Cameron does what he does very well and he was sort of walking him down a little bit, hands held high. He was drawing him into a fight, and he was turning it into his fight. If Ben Whittaker was genuinely injured, then he hasn’t got any demons to deal with.
“He’s going to go in there and he’s going to try and right the wrongs of the last one. And by the way, if he’s got the talent that we expect him to have, he will be able to adapt and we’ll see if he was underestimating Liam Cameron and he can turn it around. But Liam Cameron, you know, he is oozing with confidence at the moment,” Spencer Oliver stated Full Card Ben Whittaker v Liam Cameron Frazer Clarke vs Ebaneezer Tetteh Lee Cutler vs Sam Eggington Tyler Denny vs Elvis Ahorgah Troy Coleman vs Bradley Goldsmith This article first appeared on BoxingNews.
