Kansas City Fire Department's Firefighter Paramedic Graham Hoffman died after being fatally stabbed by a patient during what began as a routine medical call on Sunday, April 27. Kansas City police officers initially responded to a report of a woman walking on a highway near North Oak Trafficway. Upon locating her, they called in emergency medical services for further evaluation.

While being transported to the hospital, the patient unexpectedly produced an edged weapon and stabbed Hoffman in the chest, piercing his heart. His partner immediately issued a crew emergency call, prompting a swift response from both the Kansas City Fire and Police departments. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts and emergency surgery at North Kansas City Hospital, Hoffman died in the intensive care unit.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody, though their identity and motive have not yet been disclosed. The police are working closely with the Clay County Prosecutor on criminal charges. In response, city officials pledged full accountability and an internal review of the incident.
