The NCLA varsity baseball team lost 6-1 to Walkertown on the road on Thursday and lost a tightly contested game to Southwestern Randolph 3-2 on Friday.The NCLA was on spring break for both games and was missing four starters, including its No. 1 pitcher.
Walkertown (17-6) scored a run in both the first and third innings and took over with four runs in the sixth inning.The Wolfpack’s Owen Tidd pitched a gem in five and a third innings, had five strikeouts and gave up only one hit. Caden Joyce closed out the game in style with four strikeouts and no hits allowed.
Walkertown’s Westin Tomkins had one hit, two RBIs and a double. Cam Smith hit a double and scored one run. Joyce scored one run and had one RBI and David Olmwedo had one hit , one run scored and stole two bases.
On Friday, The NCLA’s Hank Gaston had a great game in the loss to Southwestern Randolph, Head Coach David Sellers said.“Gaston is on a pretty good tear. He had three hits and a home run.
He normally does not even pitch for us. He plays second or third base, but he is just a good athlete and he just throws on off days,” sellers said.Gaston pitched a complete game, had six strikeouts and gave up five hits.
Gaston had three hits, including a home run and had two RBIS and had two RBIs. The Falcons’ Jafet Robertson had two hits.The NCLA finished in a three way tie for first place in the Northwest Piedmont 1-A conference and is hosting the NWP 1-A Conference Tournament this week.
