DETROIT LAKES — Kaylynn Lea Jackson, 21, of rural White Earth has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony third-degree assault. According to court records, on June 17, 2024, a special agent with the White Earth Police Department responded to an address on Loon Drive in Ogema and talked to a woman who had a large amount of blood on her face, arms and shirt. She had been assaulted by Kaylynn Lea Jackson and another woman, according to another person at the residence.
ADVERTISEMENT The officer noticed multiple people at a nearby residence and spoke to Jackson, who told him that there had been an assault in White Earth a day earlier, on June 16, and her sister had to be taken to the hospital because of it. The Loon Drive assault appeared to be in response to that earlier assault. Jackson made several spontaneous utterances during the investigation, including “I f.
..ing broke her nose” and “I did it, I come to beat that bitch’s ass.
” On April 3, District Judge Michelle W. Lawson stayed imposition of sentence, with successful completion of probation to result in a misdemeanor conviction. Jackson was ordered to serve 45 days in jail, with credit for six days served.
Work release, treatment release, and Sentencing to Service work were authorized. She was fined $1,000 plus $160 in court fees. Jackson was also ordered not to drink or use non-prescribed drugs, to have no contact with the victim, complete cognitive skill training, and comply with cognitive behavioral interventions-programming as directed by probation.
Nathaniel Martin Kieffer, 46, of rural Frazee has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony theft. According to court records, on the morning of Oct. 6, 2023, Kieffer allegedly walked into the Detroit Lakes Menards and placed a security system and a cordless nailer into his cart.
ADVERTISEMENT While in the garden center of the store, he was seen on surveillance footage placing the security system and nailer next to some bags of gravel. He proceeded to purchase the bags of gravel, but not the security system or the nailer. Theft of both items totaled $829.
98. On October 29, 2023, Kieffer again walked into Menards and placed various items in his cart. Surveillance footage once more observed him placing the items he had gathered next to some bags of gravel.
He again purchased the bags of gravel, but not the other items he walked out of the store with. That theft totaled $1,404.07.
The Menards store manager contacted Kieffer by phone on Oct. 31, 2023. Kieffer allegedly admitted to both thefts and agreed to return the merchandise he had stolen.
He returned the items, which were placed back on the shelves – except for the nailer, which was used and could not be resold, and the security system, which was never returned. His first court appearance is set for May 15 before District Court Judge Michelle W. Lawson.
