Woman with Alzheimer’s disease dies in hit-&-run on eway

Pune: A 58-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease died after a vehicle knocked her down on the Pune-Mumbai expressway on April 21. She dwelled from Dehugaon and was missing since April 18. Her son has been searching for her and identified her body by recognizing her sari and chappals that were kept with the Shirgaon police.

The police filed a case of death due to negligence against an unknown driver. An officer from the Shirgaon police said the woman was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.



She stayed in Tasgaon in Sangli district, the officer said. "As she was alone, her son and complainant in the case brought her to her house at Dehugaon on April 18. On the same day, she left his house and did not return," the officer said, adding that after searching for a while in the area, the son filed a missing person's complaint with the Dehu Road police on April 20.

The complainant's acquaintance contacted him on April 21 and informed that someone saw his mother near Urse toll plaza late on the night of April 20. "The complainant immediately went there and checked CCTV footage of the food mall. His mother was seen walking outside the food mall," the officer said.

He said the complainant then came to the Shirgaon police station to inquire about his mother. "We had found a woman's body on the expressway on April 21. We showed him clothes and her footwear.

The complainant identified them. We are now searching for the vehicle that knocked down the woman on the Pune corridor of the expressway," the officer said..
