Judith Baker and Jane Austin completed the 26.2-mile route on Sunday, April 27 to honour their friend Win Wood, who is undergoing breast cancer treatment. The challenge, which took seven hours and 45 minutes and involved 61,000 steps, has raised more than £1,700 for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF).
Jane, 58, a retired programme lead manager in mental health for NHS Dorset, and Judith, 57, a customer ambassador at Dorchester South Station for South Western Railway, have named themselves The Trotting Tits. They started their run at Dagger’s Gate, Lulworth, around 10.15am and were met by friends and family for refreshment breaks.
Their friend Win, who is set to begin chemotherapy treatment, was there to meet them at Portland Bill in an emotional end-of-race celebration. Judith said: "We are so overwhelmed by the support and encouragement we received before and during the run, both from our loved ones and the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation. "Hugging Win at the finish line made all the effort worthwhile.
" DCCF offers financial help to Dorset people who are struggling because of cancer. The women have set up a JustGiving page to continue raising funds. To donate, search Judith Baker DCCF on the JustGiving website.
