World Earth Day celebrated across J&K, Ladakh

Excelsior CorrespondentJAMMU, Apr 22: Different organisations here today celebrated World Earth Day by organising diverse programmes on environmental importance.The Law School, University of Jammu celebrated Earth Day under the guidance of Prof Seema Rohmetra, Director of The Law School. The keynote address was delivered by Subash Gupta, former District & Sessions Judge and member of J&K Public Service Commission and he highlighted the evolution of India’s environmental jurisprudence.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to uphold principles of natural resource conservation and promote sustainable energy practices.The School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Stakna, Leh Campus, University of Ladakh, celebrated World Earth Day 2025 under the guidance of Prof. Dorjay Namgyal, Associate Director, SAS&T, Leh.



The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Deldan Namgail, Dr. Kunzes Angmo and Dr.

Anwar Hussain, along with others. Different speakers threw light on the significance of Earth Day.Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated World Earth Day at Government High School Tanda in Reasi.

The programme was organized under the guidance of SKUAST-J Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N Tripathi and Director Extension, Prof.

Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal spoke on the protection of planet Earth and gave a detailed view of plastic pollution.

World Earth Day was celebrated in JIAR, Jammu with theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. Poster & slogan presentations were done by students from Final Prof and 2nd Prof and the programme concluded by plantation drive at the College campus. The event was organised by Dr.

Neeru Bharti, Associate Professor Department of Shalakya Tantra.To commemorate World Earth Day 2025, Department of Environmental Science, GCW Parade organized a workshop on ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. Principal of the College, Dr.

Ravender Kumar Tickoo graced the occasion by his presence.PG Department of Geology, GGM Science College, celebrated Earth Day with special event featuring lectures by internationally renowned experts in the fields of energy and geosciences like Dr. Bindra Thusu, Senior Research Fellow at University College London, UK and Dr.

Sudeep Kanungo, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, USA under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the College.

Government Degree College (GDC) Nagrota celebrated Earth Day highlighting environmental responsibility under the global theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet.’ An oath-taking ceremony was organized by Eco Club Sangrakshak of the College. A major focus of the celebration was solid waste segregation and plastic waste collection.

Principal of the College, Prof. Anjali Mahajan highlighted the theme of shifting towards renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.The Eco Warrior Club of Dogra Degree College celebrated Earth Day by organising a creative pot making and planting saplings.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from BBA, B.Com and B.A students and faculty members, who came together to express their commitment to protecting the planet.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal Dogra Degree College said: “Earth Day reminds us of our responsibility to preserve and protect our environment.”The Department of Environmental Sciences, Eco-Club, NSS, NCC and Beautification Committee of GDC Thannamandi in collaboration with Municipal Committee Thannamandi celebrated World Earth Day.

A series of activities aligning this year’s theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’ were organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College.

On Earth Day, Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club of GDC Jindrah organized an invited talk on the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’ under the patronage of Principal Prof. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma. The invited speaker was a renowned writer and speaker in Dogri language, Dr.

Sarita Khajuria, who delivered a talk on ‘Cultural Practices as Pillars of Environmental Conservation.’The Department of Environmental Sciences GDC Ramgarh in collaboration with the Eco Club ‘Amrita’ and Shikshit Bharat Committee organized a series of awareness activities to celebrate World Earth Day 2025 under theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. The event was held under the guidance of College Principal, Prof.

(Dr.) Meeru Abrol, who highlighted the urgent need for sustainable practices and collective action to protect our environment.To celebrate World Earth Day, Navgrah Vatika – a joint venture of Basantar Eco Club and Maitri NSS-Unit of SPPND GDC Samba, was inaugurated by Prof.

(Dr.) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the College. The event marked planting of sacred garden featuring nine indigenous and medicinal plants dedicated to the nine celestial bodies (Navgrahas) of Hindu astrology accompanied by chanting of Vedic hymns.

A seminar and poster making competition on the theme ‘It’s my Power, It’s my Earth’ was also organized by Department of Botany.On World Earth Day 2025, Government Dy. SP Aman Thakur Memorial Degree College, Kastigarh organized a Poster Making Competition on the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’.

Prof. Koshal Kumar Mangotra, Principal of the College stressed on the importance of transitioning to renewable energy as a key solution to the climate crisis.World Earth Day 2025 was celebrated by Geology Department at Government Degree College (Boys), Udhampur with theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’.

Principal of the College, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma urged the students to be brand ambassadors of conservation efforts and lead the mission of saving our planet earth.Government Degree College Surankote celebrated the World Earth Day by hosting a seminar titled ‘Planet in Focus.

’ Eminent geologist and former HoD of Geology, University of Jammu, Prof. G.M Bhat graced the occasion as chief guest.

The programme was organized under the patronage of Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta who highlighted that we all should work together to save the Earth.

Department of Zoology and ECO Club of Government College for Women, Udhampur under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell in collaboration with Department of Geography organized a series of events to commemorate Earth Day 2025. The programme was organised under the guidance of Principal (Dr.) Nalini Pathania.

Forest Department, in collaboration with Government Degree College Khaltse, celebrated World Earth Day with plantation drive in College campus. She emphasized the importance of instilling environmental values in the younger generation and empowering individuals of all abilities to take part in eco-friendly initiatives.On Earth Day, plantation drive was organized at Pioneer Public School under the theme ‘Roots of Tomorrow’. Speakers on the occasion highlighted recent environmental challenges in the district. MP Ladakh, Haji Hanifa emphasized the importance of trees for life.District Hospital Bandipora observed World Earth Day 2025 and organised a series of awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental conservation.

Medical Superintendent, Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani emphasized the urgent need to preserve nature and combat environmental threats.To celebrate World Earth Day 2025, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan staged a Nukkad Natak on theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’.

The programme was inaugurated by V.K Magotra, former Regional Director of Directorate of Field Publicity. Especially prepared items on the theme were ‘Pead Bachao Desh Bachao’, etc.

The Regional News Unit Jammu of Akashvani observed Earth Day. On this occasion, all staff members, including RNU Head N. Gulshan Raina visited their office wearing different shades of blue colour relating with blue planet.
